Food Sensitivities

Healthy Eating Guidelines

Although there are general healthy eating guidelines, the recommended foods will not make everyone feel and look healthy. Only a small percentage of people suffer from true clinically diagnosed food allergies, however, many suffer from undiagnosed food sensitivities or intolerances. It is estimated that 5% of food allergies are immediate (severe to toxic) and 95% of these food reactions are delayed (also known as cyclic). The recurrent ingestion of the offending food such as gluten, milk or wheat can mask the symptoms, go unrecognized and are delayed with no cause and effect relationship. A good way to explore this issue is to ask your naturopath to conduct a ‘Vega Food Sensitivity Test’.

Gluten Free

One of the steps of wellness is to read ingredients labels as a habit when grocery shopping. It is likely that someone in your circle of family & friends may have celiac disease, wheat allergy or gluten intolerance.

Gluten is an umbrella term for a mixture of protein fragmenst found in common cereal grains (including wheat, semolina, durum, spelt, triticale, and kamut). ‘Celiac disease’ is a chronic digestive disorder. Those suffering with it experience a painful immune response when gluten is ingested. Similarly, ‘Gluten intolerance’ puts a great strain on the immune system, the liver, and most other organs as well. A few of the resulting problems are fatigues, irritability, mood swings, muscle or joint pain, poor concentration, sleep disturbances, and environmental intolerances
